Propel - Higher Education Website for Care Leavers

Propel is a fully searchable website providing care leavers with information on the support available to them from colleges and universities offering higher education courses across the UK.

The website, developed by Become, the charity for children in care and young care leavers, aims to inspire more care-experienced young people to see that they could further their ambitions by going to university or college.

Young people considering applying for an HE course at college or university - and the professionals supporting them - are able to access full information about each institution’s pastoral and financial provision for care leavers, as well as inspirational stories from care-experienced students.

As of February 2017, young people in Scotland will also be able to find Scottish specific advice on HE and further education (FE) support, for example the financial assistance that is available to them. Young people and the professionals that support them will be able to search for FE courses in Scotland as well as HE courses across the UK. The Scottish section of the site is accessed automatically for Scottish users by detecting their IP address and contains inspirational stories and videos from Scottish young people in further education.

Using Propel, young people will be able to make an informed choice about the right course at the right institution for them and help them ensure that they access all the support to which they are entitled, reducing the numbers of care leavers forced to drop out.
