Why are you involved in the advisory group at Become?
As a care leaver myself, I am passionate about changing the care system and improving support for care leavers. I joined the advisory group soon after I left care and it allows me to channel my frustrations at the care system into enabling change.
What do you do now?
I am currently studying Psychology at University. I work as a Support Worker in my spare time.
What’s your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement is completing my A Levels and getting the grades to go to university after having to leave care to live alone on my 18th birthday, which was in the middle of my course.
What change would you like to see?
I would like to see more mental health support for children in care and care leavers. I would also like to see a change in the age of leaving care so that young people are not left to navigate the world alone as soon as they turn 18, especially if they are in the middle of education or training. I would like to see more support from universities and training providers to enable young people to be accepted onto and complete education and training.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Being a cat lady! Other than that I like travelling and getting creative with arts and crafts.
What’s an interesting fact about you?
I did a skydive for charity and jumped out a plane from 11000 feet!
