Thanks for your interest in contributing to the Spotlight Inquiry.

This is just one of the ways you can get involved and contribute your views and expertise to the Inquiry and inform the Independent Review of Children's Social Care. The APPG is concurrently running a series of regional online evidence sessions and reaching out to groups of care-experienced young people (find out more here). However, we’ll inevitably not be able to hear from everyone through organised sessions which is why we’re also running this call for evidence.

We encourage submissions from anyone with personal and/or professional experience of the care system, including children, young people and adults with lived experience, professionals, carers, as well as organisations with an interest in improving the care system.

Submission guidance

We’ve created some guidance to help you with your submission, including a list of questions to consider responding to. However, we encourage you to see these as helpful prompts - please feel free to go beyond these questions or just focus on one particular area as it suits you and what you want to say.

We’ll also soon release discussion packs and workshop ideas to help groups who’d like to contribute something together but might not be sure where to start. Remember - if you’re a part of a group, you can also request your own online session.

How to contribute

You can share your views in whatever format you’d like – from written documents (bullet points are fine) to more creative methods and everything in between, including drawings, videos, photos, poems, songs or anything else.

You can share whatever you’ve put together through our online form linked above, by emailing to appg@becomecharity.org.uk, or by sending through to the Become participation WhatsApp number at 07425 996 668.

Support when contributing

If you’d feel comfortable, and especially if you’re contributing as an individual, you might find it helpful to chat through your thoughts with a trusted friend, family member, colleague or someone supporting you before submitting. You also might find that reflecting on your own personal experiences to create your submission feels quite difficult or draining, or brings up emotions you weren’t expecting. If you find this, don’t worry – it’s completely normal to feel this way and there are people you can turn to for some support.

If you want some specific advice or support around an issue to do with care, or if you're feeling a bit low and want someone to speak to, the team at Become are here to help you. You can contact us Monday – Friday, 10am – 5pm on 0800 023 2033 or at advice@becomecharity.org.uk. You can also take a look at our Care Advice Line webpage and coronavirus advice webpage for further information, tips and other places to go for advice.
