Welcome to Care Day 2019!

Care Day is the world’s biggest celebration of children and young people with care experience. Become has been leading these celebrations in England since the very first Care Day back in 2016.

Now in its fourth year, the theme for Care Day 2019 is 'Care to Talk.' On this page you will find everything you need to know to join the conversation and get involved with this year’s celebrations on Friday 15 February.

There are a number of ways that you can help make #CareDay19 the best yet! From sharing your experience of care, to having a conversation about the care system over a cup of tea and a slice of cake, it's easy to be a part of Care Day 2019.

We're also going to be talking about the findings from our latest report Teachers who Care, and releasing a special downloadable report containing six things children in care want teachers to know.

And kicking off Care Day week is the APPG for looked after children in care and care leavers. This meeting will be focused on all things LGBT+ care. Keep an eye on Twitter on Wednesday 13 February to join the conversation.

I wish you knew...

Throughout Care Day 2019 we'll be hearing from children in care and care leavers about the things they wish you knew about the care system.

Keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook feeds and help us share these important stories far and wide to help make #CareDay19 a success!

I wish you knew... 6 things children in care want their teachers to know

Our report Teachers who Care was published in October 2018 and makes nine recommendations to schools, training providers, Government and local authorities. Included in these recommendations is our call for the introduction of mandatory training on working with children in care in all schools for all teachers, both before and after they qualify.

For Care Day, we have developed the findings from this report into a resource for teachers highlighting six things "I wish you knew." This resource will be available to download from the Become website on Care Day, 15 February.
